Selecting The Perfect Color Scheme For Your Home



There are a number of ways to select a color scheme for any room in your home. You can select a style or theme and pull complementing colors from it. You may also wish to select some of your favorite colors and create a scheme around the selection or select a main colorway from existing decor or furniture and build around this piece. In this article we are focusing on a few main colors and how they can affect the mood of a person and the atmosphere they create in the bedroom.

Yellow is the one color that our eyes notices the fastest. Soft and bright yellows make an entire room feel cheery and sunny and is a great color for accents and to provide stunning contrast. Yellow can be very stimulating, so be careful to not overdo it.

The color green is often associated with nature. Green gives a relaxing and reassuring feeling. Pale yellow-greens promote growth while deep greens are typically associated with status and wealth. Green perfectly depicts our modern lifestyle.

The color blue arouses feelings of cleanliness, relaxation and freshness. In lighter hues, blue is airy and open, while dark blues represent strength and respect while evoking the feeling of reassurance.

The color purple is rarely used in large amounts, but has a great effect as an accent color. Purple is associated with royalty. It expresses luxury and sophistication and it can also be feminine and romantic.

The color red attracts attention and it creates excitement. Deep reds are stimulating but can be distracting if overused. Red is often associated with sophistication, while bright reds can make people feel good about the way they look.

The color black is often paired with white offering beautiful contrast. On its own, black is a color that relies largely on the effect of the other colors that are used with it. Black makes larger spaces feel smaller and more private.

The darker brown color is associated with reliability, sadness or wistfulness while lighter browns often imply genuineness. The color brown is more popular to men as the main color rather than a less bold presentation in an accent.


Colors often have different meanings in various cultures and change often, this information gives a general idea of what colors can do. Colors are what you make of them. Colors affect everyone in different ways so it is up to you do decide what will work best for the look and feel you want to create.
